SMA Careline®

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

Dear Parents,

As we are now seeing increasing cases of COVID-19 the Government has re-imposed restrictions on our daily lives.

I wanted once again – as I did back in March - to reassure you that, our teams at SMA Nutrition are all working tirelessly to ensure that we provide you with everything you need from us during these difficult times.

We learned a lot from the experience earlier in the year where there were out of stock issues due to panic buying. We have looked again at our systems to make sure that they are robust and able to maintain supply of our products so that they are available to you.

We had many phone calls from parents to our Careline team with COVID-19 related questions during the first lockdown, so we have updated our extensive FAQs list to respond to your questions, including the latest government guidance. I hope you will find those helpful.

Like you, many of our team are parents of small babies and toddlers, and have had to adapt to a new way of family life, spending more time at home and with options for recreation with the children outside quite limited. So, we have put together tips and ideas on how to keep your little ones occupied and happy now that days are also shorter, maintaining a so-much-needed routine for them, and hopefully even finding some time for self-care to keep you going.

We hope you will find the tips useful, and please know that you can always contact us via our Careline for any questions or concerns you have.

This pandemic will not last forever, and positive news on the vaccine keeps us all hopeful, but the last few months have proved the importance of staying connected in these isolating times, which I hope will remain once it is over. Our commitment to you, for now and always, is to be here to support you throughout the wonderful, rollercoaster journey of parenthood.

Kind regards
Vicky Woods
Managing Director, SMA Nutrition

Our Careline team

Googling for advice may be handy but it’s worth remembering there is an abundance of information out there, and not all of it will be right for you. To make sure you get the right advice for your little human, we have a dedicated team of expert parents with first-hand experience in everything related to babies. They also have access to expert healthcare professionals such as registered dietitians and nutritionists to answer your questions.

Most of the time it is about trusting your own instincts, however, if you would like personal advice about pregnancy, newborns or toddlers and anything in between - get in touch.

  • Mandy

    Careline Manager

Mandy is a founding member of the Careline Team and has taken thousands of calls from new mums. She has many years of experience of being a mum, so she knows how reassuring it is to talk to someone who's been there and done it. She describes the Careline as a bit like a family and says the most important thing they do is listen.

  • Claire

Careline advisor and baby feeding expert

As well as her nutritional and nursing qualifications, Claire also has another very important parenting qualification: a teenage daughter. All of this helps when new mums call for a little support. She's happy to help and listen, and believes mums should follow their instincts.

  • Bev

    Careline advisor and former midwife

As well as being a former midwife, Bev is also an expert on bottle and breastfeeding, with lots of good advice for new mums. Remembering her days as a young mum, she says the best advice she can give is 'sleep when you can'.

  • Michelle

Careline advisor and feeding issues expert

Michelle has a teenager and a ten-year-old child. Her daughter was premature at 31 weeks so she knows how difficult feeding can be, and her second child developed lactose intolerance. Michelle says it's great when you can help a new mum feel better. She believes routine's very important and that mum always knows best.

  • Maggie

    Product excellence expert

If there's anything you want to know about SMA® Nutrition, just ask Maggie. From quality to safety, she knows the details inside out. She also helps the Careline Team with your questions during the night. Maggie still remembers how she felt as a first-time mum, wanting to try to get everything right.

  • Kim

    Consumer service expert

Kim joined the team in 1998. Like Maggie, she knows everything about the SMA® Nutrition products. Having experienced bringing up a baby alone, she's our voice of experience. Kim likes being there for new mums in the hours when health professionals aren't so easily available. She says sometimes mums just need someone to talk to.

Claire Paris

Nursing background

“Being a new parent can be overwhelming and lonely at times, even as a nurse with lots of experience. I had all the knowledge but still had to try different things to see what would work. This background is extremely helpful now, when I'm chatting to all the mums and dads with similar issues. I am happy to help and listen. I believe parents should follow their instincts.”

Maggie Brown

Quality and safety

“I have been part of our Careline for a number of years and my knowledge and experience in the quality and safety of our products has enabled me to give parents the reassurance they need. I’m always here to help, as I still remember the nervousness of being a first time mum and wanting to get everything just right.”

Michelle Kerry

Mum with experience of a premature baby and dealing with intolerance

“I have worked on the SMA Careline for 13 years. My daughter was premature at 31 weeks so I know how difficult feeding can be, and my second child developed lactose intolerance. It’s a very satisfying job when you can help a new mum feel better. I believe routine is very important and that mum always knows best.”

Bev Rolls

Midwifery background

“I have been working with the Careline team for many years and have nursing and midwifery experience. I’m able to offer advice on all aspects of feeding babies, breastfeeding and bottle-feeding and have lots of good advice for new mums. I believe that new mothers should try to rest when baby has a sleep, and to go with what you feel is right for you and your baby.”

Kim Bains

Quality and safety

“Working as part of the SMA Careline team, I enjoy helping parents with all their questions, sharing my knowledge and expertise built up over the years. With Maggie, quality and safety is my specialism. Having brought up two children alone, I am very empathetic to all parents having to cope on their own. I can be available to help at any time, particularly during times when healthcare professionals are not so easily accessible to parents. I understand that sometimes you just need a friendly ear to let you know you are doing fine.”

Mandy Bryant

Careline lead

“I am a founding member of the Careline Team – I’ve had thousands of conversations on baby care during my time at SMA® Nutrition. I also have years of experience of being a mum. I know how reassuring it can be to hear advice and support from someone who's been there and done it. Our Careline is a bit like a family, we work together to give the best service we can – the most important job is for us to be there to listen when a parent needs it most.”

Important advice to mothers

World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life. SMA® Nutrition fully supports this and continued breastfeeding, along with the introduction of complementary foods as advised by your healthcare professional.
